Iyanya signs N60million endorsement deal with MTN

 Information reaching TON is that one of the newly signed Globacom ambassadors, rave of the moment musician, Burna Boy, is actually on the run from the authorities in the UK.

Since his singing career picked up dramatically, Burna Boy has been in high demand by fans in the UK but the guy can't step his foot in London without being arrested and has been dodging. Why is this so?

Burna Boy has been going to USA, Canada and other countries for shows but he has not been to the UK to perform unlike his fellow Nigerian artist. The reason, from what a source told TON, is because he was deported to Nigeria in August 2010 after he was caught for running bank scams.

The information is that Burna Boy, who first got to the UK in 2003, was deported back in 2010 for fraud bank scams.

I hear Burna Boy cant go back to the UK unless he has his deportation order revoked which seems very difficult for him at the moment as he has had many request to do shows but were turned down.

UNIBEN student shot in the head at school sports complex

A 200level Mathematics student of the University of Benin known as Snazzy was shot in the head by an unknown gun man around 2pm yesterday afternoon during the biometrics registration held in the university sports complex.

Eye witnesses say the gunman dropped the gun and disappeared into the crowd before he could be identified. Snazzy was immediately rushed to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital. Don't know for sure if he died or survived. Will update as soon as I have confirmation.

Wizkid was involved in an accident around 3: 30am this morning in front of GET Arena as he left the Nokia Lumia Beat party which held at the Oriental Hotel in Lekki. Fortunately, the only thing damaged in the accident was the Porsche Panamera S car worth about N10m which he recently bought. Wizkid and other passengers in the car were unhurt.

According to my paparazzi who witnessed the accident and took the photos, the accident was caused by a burst tyre. Wizkid, who wasn't the one driving, was quickly taken away in another car. His bodyguard stayed behind to get the vehicle towed

Mikel Obi has agreed to join Turkish side Galatasaray

Nigerian international and Chelsea Midfielder John Mikel Obi has agreed to join  Turkish champions Galatasaray,  former Chelsea mate Didier Drogba is also currently with the Turkish side.

Galatasaray sporting director Bulent Tulun said Mikel has agreed in principle to join them, according to a leading Turkey football website fotomac.
Chelsea returning boss Jose Mourinho and both clubs are now to decide on this transfer, said Tulun, who met with other top officials this week on the matter.

world’s oldest man, jiroemon kimura, dies at 116

TOKYO (AFP) – The world’s oldest person and the oldest man ever to have lived has died of natural causes aged 116, officials in Japan said Wednesday. 

Jiroemon Kimura, who was born in 1897, died in hospital early Wednesday morning “from old age”, an official in Kyoto’s Kyotango city said in a statement. 

Kimura, who was from Kyotango, was hospitalised in early May suffering from pneumonia. A few days ago doctors noted that his condition was worsening

Kimura was recognised by Guinness World Records as the world’s oldest living person in December 2012, after a woman from the United States died at the age of 115. 

That month he also broke another record when he was verified as the oldest man ever to have lived, after reaching the age of 115 years and 253 days. 

However, he was well off the all-time record set by French woman Jeanne Calment, who died in 1997 at the age of 122, making her the longest living person in history. 

Kimura, who was born the same year as American aviation pioneer Amelia Earhart, celebrated his 116th birthday in April, receiving a pre-recorded video greeting from Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. 

The centenarian had seven children, 14 grandchildren, 25 great-grand children and 15 great-great grandchildren, and worked at a post office for about 40 years. After retiring he took up farming which he continued to do until the age of 90. 

He did not smoke and only ate until he was 80 percent full, the local official told AFP. 

Kimura’s motto in life was “to eat light and live long,” the official added. 

The mayor of Kyotango will pay his respects at Kimura’s house while the city hall will prepare a place for a book of condolences, the official said. 

“I heard a wake will be tomorrow and a funeral the day after tomorrow,” he said. 

“Mr. Kimura was popular among residents so we expect many people to visit to sign condolences,” he added. 

Encouraged by Kimura and 94 other people in Kyotango who will this year be 100 years old or more, the 60,000-strong city, together with 36 other municipalities, is planning to launch a research project to examine their diets and find the secrets of their longevity

The senate president of the national association of nigerian students NANS Donald Onukaogu and four other   students where killed in a tragic auto accident along the umuiahia- Ikot Ekepne express way on their way to  the University of Uyo Akwa Imbo state to interview the crisis that rocked the school yesterday.
The bus they where travelling with collided with a trailer which was had said to have lost control.

Donald was a student of the Federal university of technology owerri.

Today, October 1st 2012, Nigeria celebrates its 52nd Independence Anniversary. Quoting the words of the first Independence Day speech by Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Nigeria’s Prime Minister in 1960, “This is a wonderful day, and it is all the more wonderful because we have awaited it with increasing impatience, compelled to watch one country after another overtaking us on the road when we had so nearly reached our goal. But now we have acquired our rightful status, and I feel sure that history will show that the building of our nation proceeded at the wisest pace: it has been thorough, and Nigeria now stands well-built upon firm foundations.” 



52 years on, Nigeria has been through its ups and downs. As many people would say, we are not yet where we are supposed to be but we are relentless, and we are still forging ahead. 

Yesterday, at an interdenominational church service to mark the 52nd independence anniversary of the nation at the National Christian Centre, Abuja, President Goodluck Jonathan stated that he could not solve Nigeria’s problems alone and only the collective efforts of all would take the country forward. 

Punch quoted the President saying, “Leadership at all levels of government is a collective thing. One person cannot change a nation. The President, governors, lawmakers, members of the judiciary alone cannot do it. 

“The leader matters but he cannot change things alone. All Nigerians, men and women, will change things in the country. 

“If God can use Nehemiah to rebuild the wall of Jerusalem, in all arms of governments, I believe we have many Nehemiahs. There are many of them among teachers, artisans, and clergy. 

“God will use these various Nehemiahs to rebuild this country. I can say again that Nigeria will succeed; with our cooperation we shall succeed!” 

As we reflect today, let us take a cue from the President’s words and contribute our own little quota to the growth of our Nation. Everyone of us has a role to play, and together, we can make a positive change in our nation.

What are your thoughts and hopes for Nigeria at 52?

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) two days ago arrested one Abubakar Tijani Sheriff, whom it described as a bulk currency smuggler, as he attempted to smuggle $7million out of the country. The EFCC said in a statement yesterday that Sheriff, 24, was arrested at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos en route Dubai, United Arab Emirates, as he boarded his flight. 



Following his arrest, he declared that he had a total sum of $4.5million on him but thorough screening and search showed that he was actually carrying $7,049,444, the commission said. Sheriff then confessed that he was a courier for 20 individuals who hired him to courier the money for them to Dubai. 

"Investigations by the EFCC showed that Sheriff is a regular traveller and one of several couriers of illegal cash suspected to be proceeds of crime,” the commission adding that his claims concerning his accomplices are being investigated. 

Travellers leaving the country are statutorily required to declare cash in excess of $10,000. However, under the provisions of the Money Laundering Act, it is not sufficient to declare excess cash; the onus is on the person making the declaration to explain the source of the excess cash and the reason for the export.
